Welcome to Cub & Chaos – an Auckland based company born after my husband and I had our first baby – Hugo. Cub & Chaos specialises in comfortable, stylish and ethically made pieces for little cubs of New Zealand.

Hi there, I’m Julie. As excited as I was to be a first time mum, I soon found out this new title came with its fair share of challenges. Multi-tasking had taken on a whole new dimension. Learning how to look after my baby bear was one thing, but I soon discovered that basic tasks like showering, the never ending laundry (I’m sure I blink and the basket is full again), cleaning and tidying the house, scheduling errands in between Hugo’s naps, diapers, milk feeds and making nutritional solid meals is another thing entirely. It’s safe to say dry shampoo quickly became my bff.

As I sit here typing, my husband is supposed to be on Hugo duty. Out the corner of my eye I can see Hugo has endeavoured to empty the entire contents of my office drawer onto the floor, and my once organised filing now looks like a giant game of scrabble.

Motherhood - nobody can prepare you for it, they say - they really weren’t joking. As adorable as our little cub is (and I really do love almost every minute) my once highly creative design career and chic lifestyle has turned into the sometimes frantic nature of child rearing chaos.

My former weekend pastimes spent sipping coffee, meeting friends for lunch and browsing shopping racks of Ponsonby Road have been replaced by pulling crayons out of places you would never imagine (which is always entertaining!). It’s undeniable that my graphic design background and creative side needed to be released. So this is my creative space, designing cool pieces for our son, and everyone else who's interested.
